• David Hunter McAlpin (1816-1901) was a tobacco manufacturer and philanthropist. In addition to owning the tobacco firm, D.H. McAlpin Company, he also made substantial investments in real estate including the McAlpin Hotel in New York City and was a director of several banks and insurance and energy companies.
