Biography
Emily Ellsworth Fowler Ford (18256-1893) was a prolific and published writer of poetry and narrative who came from a prominent New England family. She grew up in Amherst, Mass., and was a friend and correspondent of Emily Dickinson. She was the granddaughter of Noah Webster, the daughter of William Chauncey Fowler and Mary C. Fowler, and the wife of Gordon Lester Ford, a prominent businessman, lawyer and collector, with whom she raised their seven children in Brooklyn, New York. Her children, including the writer Emily Ellsworth Ford Skeel, the athlete Malcolm Ford, and the historians Worthington Chauncey Ford and Paul Leicester Ford, were educated with the Ford family library, renowned for its vast holdings and collections.
