Summary
  1. Program illustrates the pervasiveness of the black consciousness movement throughout the country in the mid-1960s and early 1970s. Describes the student movement at Howard University for black studies and explores the "coming of age" of black politicians and political activists through a description of the National Black Political Convention at Gary, Indiana. Uses Cassius Clay, who wanted to be called by his new Islamic name, Muhammad Ali, as an example of blacks rejecting old stereotypes and gaining a new sense of pride.
