Summary
In this television program reporter Renee Ferguson follows African American students of Chicago's Suder Elementary School on their visit to West Africa, where they learn first hand about Africa and themselves. Stops include Dakar, Senegal, a village, Lome, Togo, the slave fort across the bay from Dakar, a poor fishing village. During their visit the students are welcomed by Africans, learn dances, meet the American ambassador, visit a fetish market and learn some of the history of the slave trade. Throughout the program the student reactions to their experiences is heard.
