Summary
Portraits of labor and civil rights leader A. Philip Randolph. Collection consists of studio portraits of Randolph; views of Randolph attending dinners and public functions, and participating in labor and political activities; and in group portraits with various public officials and union leaders. Of note are group portraits of Randolph with C. L. Dellums, Thomas Patterson, Ashley Totten, and other early leaders of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters (ca. 1925); and Randolph, with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., National Urban League leader Lester Granger and NAACP leader Roy Wilkins, meeting President Dwight D. Eisenhower at the White House (1958). Among those depicted with Randolph include Arthur Spingarn, Will Rogers, Jr., Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., Arthur Goldberg, and Hubert T. Delaney. Also included are a studio portrait of Randolph's wife, Lucille Green Randolph; Lucille in a group portrait with others attending the Howard Alumni formal, in New York (1952); and view of a bust of Randolph. Full, half and quarter length portraits are included.
