Summary
Campaign posters manufactured during the 1930's and 1980's. The collection includes election posters, primarily for elections in New York state, New York City and especially Harlem. Also included are eleven posters that represent campaigns in Haiti written in Creole. There are campaign posters that represent nearly every political office: City Council, Borough President, Mayor, Lt. Governor, Supreme Court Justice, Civil Court Jurist, President, Assembly; documented are campaigns run by men such as Jesse Jackson, Dick Gregory, Benjamin J. Davis Jr, Adam Clayton Powell Jr, Hon. Judge Bruce Wright, Percy Sutton and David Dinkins to name a few. Included are posters that deal with social concerns of the Harlem community. In addition, the collection has 2 posters identifying members of the New York State Black and Puerto Rican Legislative Caucus and 1 poster that celebrates the 10th anniversary of the National Conference of Black Mayors, Inc.
