Biography
Aline MacMahon was born May 3, 1899 in McKeesport, Pa. After studying and performing with the Neighborhood Playhouse Theatre, she made her Broadway debut in THE MIRAGE (1921). She appeared in over 50 plays, among them THE EVE OF SAINT MARK (1942); ROMEO AND JULIET (1959); CORIOLANUS (1965); THE MADWOMAN OF CHAILLOT (1961); and TRELAWNY OF THE 'WELLS' (1975). Miss MacMahon also had a distinguished film career. Her 43 films include notable productions such as FIVE STAR FINAL (1931); ONCE IN A LIFETIME (1932); KIND LADY (1935); AH, WILDERNESS (1935); DRAGON SEED (1944) for which she won an Oscar nomination; THE SEARCH (1948) and ALL THE WAY HOME (1963). She appeared, as well, on radio and television. She died in October 1991.
