Summary
Portraits of clergyman and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Numerous views of King leading marches with his wife Coretta, speaking at demonstrations such as the NYC Peace Demonstration and the Prayer Pilgrimage at Lincoln Memorial, in churches, at press conferences, and in one image, walking a picket line. Individuals in group portraits with King are Bayard Rustin, William Toles, Rosa Parks and David Boston before the Great Freedom March Rally, and often, Ralph Abernathy. Notable images include King receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, standing outside his motel room with Jesse Jackson, Abernathy and Hosea Williams, waiting to speak at the Lincoln Memorial with Roy Wilkins, A. Philip Randolph and others, confronting the police with Stokely Carmichael and Floyd McKissick, the funeral march with Andrew Young, Jesse Jackson, Abernathy and Joshua Williams surrounding the mule train, and King's family leading the vast sea of mourners. Also images of King as a young boy at a birthday party, in a family portrait as well as views of King Sr., and of memorials to King at B.U., in Harlem, and a portrait of King.
