Summary

1. Views of vibraphonist Lionel Hampton taken approximately between 1930 and 1970. Includes studio portraits (promotional stills) of Hampton alone, with his orchestra with a variety of other jazz artists including Red Norvo, John Kirby, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman and Tommy Dorsey. The collection also includes many photographs of Hampton in groups portraits in concert settings, and at social events or benefits. People identified in these portraits include his wife Gladys, Jerry Lewis, Delores Del Rio, Milton Buckner, Diahann Carroll, Arnett Cobbs, Gregory Hines, Batman Ortega, Joe Williams, Hal James and Jerry Lester. Half, three-quarter and full-length views are included.
