Abandoning her former ways for her lover, Violetta is confronted by Alfredo's father, who begs her to give him up, as the family would be ruined otherwise. She does this, and returns to her previous life. Alfredo confronts Violetta with her seeming unfaithfulness, aggravating her weakened condition.
