Summary
The bulk of the James Gelb collection consists of correspondence from Harold Clurman, dating from 1953 to 1976. The earliest correspondence in the collection dates back to 1943, but the majority falls between the mid-1950s to the early 1970s, and consists of Harold Clurman's letters and postcards. Clurman, often writing from Europe or Japan, describes his travels, critiques plays he has seen, and speaks of his current theatrical projects.
