Biography
  1. James Gelb was a Broadway stage manager who worked extensively with director Harold Clurman, and many other prominent theatrical figures of his day. Born in 1906, Gelb began his career in the 1930s as a member of Eva LeGallienne's Civic Repertory Company, and later worked with the Group Theater. For many years he stage managed most of the plays directed by Harold Clurman, and also worked for other producers and directors such as Kermit Bloomgarden, Elia Kazan, and Robert Whitehead. James Gelb died October 16, 1985.
