Summary
Traces the history of Allen Allensworth and the town he founded, Allensworth, California. Allensworth was born into slavery in 1842, attained the rank of lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and established the town of Allensworth in 1908. It was financed and governed entirely by blacks. No longer a town, Allensworth has been established as a California state part, dedicated to documenting the achievement of Afro-Americans in California.
