- Malcolm X's speech, The ballot or the bullet, given on April 3, 1964 at the Cory Methodist Church at a meeting sponsored by the Cleveland chapter of the Congress of Racial Equality. In this speech, Malcolm X outlines his philosophy of black nationalism subsequent to his break with the Black Muslims and his founding of the Muslim Mosque, Inc. This speech, given at a symposium entitled The Negro revolt - what comes next?, follows the speech of Louis E. Lomax of Cleveland CORE. This speech is one of two by Malcolm X entitled The ballot or the bullet in the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture of The New York Public Library.
