Judge Robert Katzmann and Anthony Yoseloff Named To The New York Public Library’s Board of Trustees

NOVEMBER 18, 2016– The New York Public Library has named two new members to its Board of Trustees: US Court of Appeals Second Circuit Chief Judge Robert A. Katzmann and financial and philanthropic leader Anthony Yoseloff.

The two were elected at the Board of Trustees meeting held on Nov. 16 at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street. Their tenure begins immediately.

“The Board is very pleased to welcome these two new Trustees, leaders in their respective fields whose impressive careers have included groundbreaking efforts to make education, knowledge, and opportunity accessible to all people: work completely in line with the mission of The New York Public Library,”  said NYPL Board of Trustees Chairman Evan Chesler.

The Honorable Robert A. Katzmann is Chief Judge for the second circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals, a position he has held since 2013. He was appointed to the Court of Appeals in 1999, and has been the Walsh Professor of Government, Professor of Law and Professor of Public Policy at Georgetown University; a Fellow of the Governmental Studies Program of the Brookings Institution; and president of the Governance Institute. He chaired the U.S. Judicial Conference Committee on the Judicial Branch, serves as a member of the U.S. Judicial Conference, and is a commissioner on the Supreme Court Fellows Commission. Judge Katzmann – a native New Yorker and graduate of its public school system – has been the recipient of numerous awards and honorary degrees, and was instrumental in the creation of the Immigrant Justice Corps (IJC), the country’s first fellowship program dedicated to providing legal assistance for immigrants seeking citizenship and fighting deportation. As chief judge, he launched a circuit-wide civic education and engagement initiative, "Justice For All: Courts and Community." Judge Katzmann received his A.B. (summa cum laude) from Columbia College, A.M. and Ph.D in government from Harvard University, and a J.D. from the Yale Law School, where he was an Article and Book Review Editor of the Yale Law Journal. After clerking on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, he joined the Brookings Institution. A fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, Judge Katzmann also authored several books.

Anthony Yoseloff is the Deputy Executive Managing Member of Davidson Kempner Capital Management LP, a global institutional investment management firm that he joined in 1999. His many philanthropic efforts are often tied to education: he is a director of DonorsChoose.org, a charity that gives the public a simple, accountable and personal way to address educational inequity, and he is on the board of LEDA (Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America), which helps high-achieving students from low-income backgrounds gain admission to selective colleges and supports their collegiate careers. Yoseloff -- a member of both the Library’s President’s Council and Library Council whose affiliation with the Library began in 2009 – was also a member of Princeton University’s $1.75 billion Aspire Campaign Executive Committee and was a co-chair for the Campaign’s New York Metro region. The five-year campaign ended on June 30, 2012 after raising $1.88 billion to support the university, exceeding its goal. Yoseloff earned an A.B. degree from Princeton University in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs (1996), as well as a certificate in the program in American Studies. He holds a J.D. from Columbia Law School (1999) and an M.B.A. from the Columbia Graduate School of Business Administration (1999).  Yoseloff’s family has been in the publishing business for 80 years, including as owners of publishers Rosemont Publishing & Printing Co., Associated University Presses and A.S. Barnes & Co.
