The New York Public Library Elects Carlos Rodriguez-Pastor, Andres Santo Domingo, and Tali Farhadian Weinstein to its Board of Trustees

May 9, 2018 – The New York Public Library has named Carlos Rodriguez-Pastor, Andres Santo Domingo and Tali Farhadian Weinstein to its Board of Trustees. The three were appointed at the Board of Trustees meeting held on May 9, 2018 at NYPL's Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. Their tenure begins immediately.

"It is with great pleasure that the Board welcomes Carlos Rodriguez-Pastor, Andres Santo Domingo, and Tali Farhadian Weinstein to The New York Public Library," said NYPL Board of Trustees Chairman Evan Chesler. "Their collective experience -- and individual interests -- supporting research, education and the arts is the ideal complement to the Library’s mission to provide access and inspiration for all New Yorkers."

Carlos Rodriguez-Pastor is chairman of Intercorp, a holding company that is an umbrella for more than 20 businesses, including banking and insurance. Intercorp grew out of Banco Internacional del Peru, which his father bought in the mid-1990s. Following his father’s death, Rodriguez-Pastor took over the company and built it into the conglomerate it is today, catering primarily to Peru’s burgeoning middle class. One of Intercorp’s portfolio companies is the for-profit Innova Schools, of which Rodriguez-Pastor is co-founder and chairman. Students at Innova Schools spend 70 percent of their time in group learning, and 30 percent self-learning with the aid of laptops and programs like Khan Academy. There are currently 49 Innova schools, with 37,000 students, with a goal of 83 schools with 74,000 students by 2022, covering roughly one percent of Peru’s student population. Rodriguez-Pastor is a trustee of Dartmouth College and serves on the Tuck School of Business’s board of overseers as a trustee representative. He is also a member of the board of the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies. Rodriguez-Pastor has been affiliated with the Library since March 2017 and in 2017 made a gift to the Library to fund the Latin American Curator.

Andres Santo Domingo is a member of the Colombian family that founded the Bavaria brewery and Grupo Santo Domingo conglomerate. He co-founded Brooklyn-based record label Kemado Records in 2002 and in 2008 followed up with Mexican Summer, a label that he and his business partner, Keith Abrahamsson, spun out of Kemado. In its first five years in business, Mexican Summer evolved from a subscription-based, vinyl-only label to one with some 40 releases a year on average. In 2016, Mexican Summer teamed up with gallery Boo-Hooray to form a new publishing company called Anthology Editions which will be launching this month a new collection of never before published Lou Reed poetry from the Lou Reed Archive at NYPL. Santo Domingo is a director of The Shed, Conservation International and Pioneer Works in Brooklyn, and a Creative Time ambassador. Santo Domingo is a graduate of Brown University and has been affiliated with the Library since 2016.
