Cornell and The New York Public Library Launch 'Cornell & NYPL'- a partnership for New York City

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Cornell University and The New York Public Library (NYPL) have launched “Cornell@NYPL,” a unique partnership to educate and benefit New York City residents. Over 77 programs will be offered throughout the library’s branches focusing on health, nutrition, and financial literacy featuring Cornell faculty and New York City cooperative extension experts. The partnership will also include performances and events at The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

“The New York Public Library is very pleased to form an on-going partnership with Cornell University,” according to Elaine Charnov, Director for Education, Programming and Exhibitions at the Library. “NYPL seeks to engage and enrich the lives of New Yorkers through programs at its branch libraries across Manhattan, the Bronx and Staten Island. The Cornell offerings on critical, practical issues: health and nutrition, energy savings and financial literacy, bring the university’s academic excellence to the diverse communities of New York.“

Sharing practical solutions and tips for making smart, informed everyday decisions, many of the Cornell@NYPL fall programs are highly interactive and provide a certificate of participation. For instance, food and nutrition programs will explore food selection and preparation, and budget and safety issues, while other workshops will offer strategies to lower energy and utility bills and improve energy efficiency. Library branches will also host financial literacy programs on free money management tools and how to create a personal and family spending plan. [See current schedule of programs below.]

“Cornell University is thrilled to partner with the New York Public Library to bring outstanding programs that will be accessible to all New Yorkers,” said Brenda Tobias, Director of NYC Communications at Cornell University. “As New York State’s land grant university, Cornell’s knowledge-sharing and public outreach mission complements that of the New York Public Library, one of the most distinguished New York institutions.”
