The mission of the Queens Economic Development Corporation (QEDC) is to create and retain jobs through programming that assists small businesses, encourages entrepreneurship, and promotes their community with an emphasis on supporting those of low-to-moderate income, women, minorities, and immigrants. EDC programs include specialized workshops and training seminars, the Queens StartUp! Business Plan Competition, the Queens Tech + Innovation Challenge, and the Women's Business Center.

Our new Refugee Microenterprise Program helps eligible refugees and asylees start and expand small businesses throughout New York City. The  Program is designed for individuals with special immigration status, as well as Cuban and Haitian entrants, certain Amerasians from Vietnam, and lawful permanent residents who have previously held one of these statuses.

Short- and long-term entrepreneurial training, one-on-one business counseling, and access to micro-loans of up to $15,000 are available through this program. Services are delivered by culturally appropriate staff in the languages of the communities served.

Renaissance Economic Development Corporation (REDC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a U.S. Treasury-certified Community Development Financial Institution.  REDC’s mission is to transform low-to-moderate income and immigrant communities in New York City by providing low-interest small business loans, training and counseling services. REDC maintains offices in Manhattan’s Chinatown/Lower East Side and Flushing and Jackson Heights Queens. Services are available in English, Chinese, Korean and Spanish. REDC is a Small Business Administration-approved microlender a Community Advantage lender.

The Restoration Capital Fund, Inc. (RCF) supports entrepreneurship and minority-owned business that create jobs and contribute to Brooklyn's economy and community life. In partnership with the Brooklyn Cooperative Federal Credit Union (BCFCU), RCF offers fixed-rate business loans for the following purposes: to purchase inventory, update equipment, pay accounts receivable, or manage debt. Through a partnership with Workshops In Business Opportunities (WIBO), RCF provides both pre- and post-lending technical assistance to ensure efficient and effective deployment of capital, and to support the success of business owners and their obligations as borrowers.

SCORE offers free advisory, individual counseling from retired or active business executives on all aspects of starting and running a small business. SCORE regularly offers workshops and seminars on a variety of topics - International Trade, Writing a Business Plan, Strategies for Succeeding in Business, Financing a Small Business, etc. Hours: Mon. and Wed.: 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM;Tues., Thurs., Fri: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM;(Other times by appointment)

 

SCORE offers free individual counseling by experienced retired and active executives on all aspects of starting and running a small business. In addition, seminars and workshops are offered regularly on a variety of topics including How To Start A Business,International Trade, Business Plans, and How To Get Financing. The Brooklyn office is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Call for specific hours. Note: Check hours for SCORE offices in Manhattan, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx under their separate listings.

SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business, is a not-for-profit volunteer association of business people who provide free confidential business consulting. A SCORE counselor will help you define your needs and evaluate your options. They will meet you at any SCORE office in the five boroughs. Counseling may take one to several sessions; but you will have someone to assist you with business problems. SCORE also regularly offers seminars and workshops on a variety of topics including How To Start A Small Business; International Trade; Business Plans; and How To Get Financing. SCORE's main office is open Monday through Thursday 9-4 pm, Friday from 10 to 2pm. No appointment is necessary. Note: There are other SCORE offices throughout the city. Check listings under Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island. and the Bronx. The New York District Office is responsible for the delivery of SBA's many programs and services in New York City, Long Island and the downstate counties of Duchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester.

SERVICES AVAILABLE:

The SBA has developed many small business loan and assistance programs, special outreach efforts and initiatives to aid and inform small businesses. The New York District offices offer:

  • Financial assistance for new or existing businesses through guaranteed loans made by area bank and non-bank lenders. For more information, call (212) 264-1763.

  • Free counseling, advice and information on starting, better operating or expanding a small business through the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE), Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) and Women's Business Centers (WBC). 

  • Regularly scheduled training events throughout the district
