The Subcontractors Trade Association promotes and protects the interests of subcontractors. The Association conducts regularly scheduled membership meetings and seminars.
The Support Center offers consulting, transition management and training services designed to increase the effectiveness of the nonprofit sector. The Pratt Center's NYIRN project provides business development services to NYC manufacturers, including: real estate and incentive program referrals, marketing assistance, sourcing services, educational programming energy efficiency grants and more. The Pratt Center works for a more just, equitable, and sustainable city for all New Yorkers by empowering manuafacturing stakeholdes through open and inclusive decision-making that brings together labor, community, business and government to address economic policy issues, develop programs, and deliver services.
Loans $20,000 to $500,000 are available to small businesses and women and minority-owned businesses that have transportation-related contracts with New York State Department of Transportation. Loans are made for short-term working capital for labor and materials, and funds are payable monthly, as cash flow dictates. Eligible borrowers are businesses that have been awarded contracts, but have not yet begun work and those who have begun work not more than 30 days prior to the loan closing.
TruFund Financial Services provides financing to small businesses and nonprofits with more than one year in operation. It also offers an affordable source of working capital for organizations seeking to expand or re-locate. TruFund provides lending and educational opportunities for small businesses and nonprofits. New Market Tax Credits are also available for eligible businesses.
Under this program businesses in the Jamaica area (zip code beginning with 114...) with sales that do not exceed $10 million are eligible for loans ranging from $10,000 to $300,000 for working capital, equipment, real estate, or purchase of an existing business. Since beginning operations in 1996, the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation (UMEZDC) has helped to revitalize economic life in neighborhoods North of 96th Street including Harlem, East Harlem, and Washington Heights/Inwood. UMEZ's mission is to sustain the economic revitalization of all the communities of Upper Manhattan through job creation, corporate alliances, strategic investments and small business assistance. UMEZ's Business Resources and Investment Services Center (BRISC) offers start-up and/or expansion loans to qualified entrepreneurs in Upper Manhattan. UMEZ's technical assistance programs are available to ensure the sustainability, profitability and growth of small businesses in the Zone. Technical assistance includes consulting services, workshops and seminars, and access to loans.
Workforce1 Career Centers are a one-stop shop for employers and jobseekers. Services to businesses may include human resources consulting, job-candidate screening and customized training for employees. For jobseekers services include resume and interview preparation, job-search coaching and access to educational and training opportunities.
