Partnerships and individuals/sole proprietorships doing business under a name other than their own need a Doing Business As (DBA) Business Certificate. File a Business Certificate form with the Count Clerk's Office in the borough where your business is located.
The RITE Center is a free job training and placement program for job seekers and employers alike. In addition to providing hard skill vocational training programs for job seekers, the RITE Center is a viable resource for small business owners. The RITE Center seeks to forge partnerships, to find employmen that works for the individual, and to ensure the right candidate for the employer. The RITE Center works closely with job seekers to make only the strongest referrals to employers and to small business owners.
The Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation is a 501(c)(3) corporation that provides professional business advisory services through a collaboration with the New York state Economic Development Corporation. Established in 2013, the Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation Small Business Development Center is able to assist business clients with access to capital to: start-up a business; business acquisitions; 504 real estate loans; franchises; purchase inventory, machinery, equipment, furniture or fixtures; construction loans; and refinancing existing debt. We also provide business management consulting services for existing and start-up businesses for: business acquisitions and sales: financial analysis; loan packaging; and business planning.
Rockaway Development & Revitalization Corporation is the administrator of the NYS Empire Zone Program for the Rockaway peninsula. The Empire Zone Program enables RDRC to offer qualified businesses a package of economic incentives and utility discounts that support the local community
SIBL uses advanced technology to provide businesses with up-to-date information. Visitors to the Library can use its computers to access online business databases and the internet. Wired and wireless internet access is available. SIBL's Electronic Information Center offers hands-on, instructional classes on using the Library's licensed databases. SIBL maintains a full schedule of evening seminars and workshops on business topics. SIBL also sponsors an annual Business Plan Competition. SCORE, Counselors to America's Small Business, is a not-for-profit volunteer association of business people who provide free confidential business consulting. A SCORE counselor will help you define your needs and evaluate your options. They will meet you at any SCORE office in the five boroughs. Counseling may take one to several sessions; but you will have someone to assist you with business problems. SCORE also regularly offers seminars and workshops on a variety of topics including How To Start A Small Business; International Trade; Business Plans; and How To Get Financing. SCORE's main office is open Monday through Thursday 9-4 pm, Friday from 10 to 2pm. No appointment is necessary. Note: There are other SCORE offices throughout the city. SCORE Chapter 476 has three Staten Island locations: at the Chamber of Commerce on 130 Bay Street (open Wednesdays from 9am-12pm, appointment necessary); at Santander Bank, 1550 Richmond Road (open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am-12pm, no appointment necessary); and at the St. George Library, NY Public Library at 5 Central Avenue, 718-442-8560 on Saturday mornings (appointment neccessary).
