Schomburg Centennial: Remembering Malcolm X: Reading Images Workshop

In celebration of the hundredth anniversary of Malcolm X's birth, join us in the Schomburg Center's Photographs and Prints Division for Remembering Malcolm X: Reading Images Workshop. Human rights leader Malcolm X understood visual imagery and power. Led and facilitated by Associate Curator La Tanya S. Autry, this interactive looking and discussion-centered workshop spotlights images of Malcolm X made by Gordon Parks, Robert L. Haggins, Richard Saunders, and other photographers. Workshop participants also will consider excerpts from Malcolm X's speeches and autobiography as well as his cultural legacy.

About the Photographs and Prints Division

he Photographs and Prints Division contains both documentary and fine art photographs, which document the history and culture of people of African descent worldwide as well as the work of photographers of African descent. The collection of over 300,000 images ranges from mid-eighteenth-century graphics to contemporary documentary and art photography. All of the major photographic processes are represented.
