About this event
- Event lasts 1 hour
Historical events might feel like distant concepts to students—bring history to life by examining the lives of ordinary citizens who became changemakers. In this workshop, participants will explore historical newspapers to make connections between tenant activism and housing reform. Discover strategies to engage students with primary sources that highlight how grassroots movements shaped history and continue to inspire action today.
Learn about how to easily integrate lessons on 19th- and 20th-century tenant activism into your classroom! Explore ready-to-use discussion questions and activities in our all-new curriculum guide, New York City’s Rent Strikers: Jewish Activism & Housing Reform in the Progressive Era, for grades 8–12.
Eligible New York State teachers will receive 1 hour of CTLE credit.
