About The Presenter:
Dr. Gilbert Kunken served for 17 years as the Deputy Regional Administrator for the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services New York Regional Office, which has oversight responsibility for the Medicare and Medicaid programs serving New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. One of his several responsibilities was to oversee an outreach and education staff that presented Medicare information to new and current Medicare beneficiaries. Prior to that, he served for 30 years as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, spending 26 of those years detailed to the U.S. Coast Guard. In the Coast Guard, he served in several senior health care executive positions including Chief Dental Officer, Chief of Quality Assurance, Chief of Health, Safety and Environmental Health for the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area and Chief of Operational Medicine, and he led a U.S. Senate directed health care task force to help integrate the Coast Guard into the Department of Defense’s TRICARE military health care program. Dr. Kunken received his Bachelor of Science degree and his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Temple University and his Master in Public Health degree from Columbia University. He is a Fellow of the American and International College of Dentists and has held several dental school faculty appointments. Dr. Kunken is currently a Medicare consultant for the NYC Department for the Aging and a volunteer health insurance counselor for the New Jersey State Health Insurance Assistance Program.
