Event Details

For August's selection, we're discussing The Mayor of Maxwell Street by Avery Cunningham.  This event will be VIRTUAL. Registration for each session will open one week prior to the event at 9:00AM and events are limited to 20 participants.

The Mayor of Maxwell Street is Avery Cunningham's debut novel, an "epic love story and a tale of intrigue, racial tension, and class warfare, set against the glamorous and gritty backdrop of early 20th century Chicago....When a rich Black debutante enlists the help of a low-level speakeasy manager to identify the head of an underground crime syndicate, the two are thrust into the dangerous world of Prohibition-era Chicago" (Summary provided by Amazon)

Books & Banter operates a bit differently than your average book club: we read a few chapters and meet Thursdays at 4PM to discuss what we've read so far. No Spoilers! With less pressure to finish the book, you can read it at a slower pace.
