This training will take place in person at Morningside Heights Library.
MHFA is a groundbreaking public education program that teaches the skills needed to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance abuse challenges and crises. This two-session 8-hour course uses role-playing and simulations to demonstrate how to offer initial help in a mental health crisis and connect persons to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care. Like CPR, MHFA prepares participants to interact with a person in crisis and connect the person with help. First Aiders do not take on the role of the professionals.
Mental Health First Aid leads to:
- Greater recognition of behavioral health challenges
- Increased confidence in one’s ability to help
- An increased amount of help provided
- Decreased stigmatizing attitudes while promoting inclusion
Everyone taking the course must be at least 17 years old.
Participants must attend the 8-hour complete series to receive a 3-year certification in Mental Health First Aid! For more info visit DOHMH's Crisis Services/Mental Health website.
In partnership with the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
- Audience: Adults, 50+, College & Graduate Students, Parents/Caregivers
