LIVE from NYPL's happy hours on the terrace at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL) take place on select Fridays. Drop in for drinks, mingling, and crafts, as well as a short selection of curated readings!

Join us at any point between 5:30-7:30 PM. Readings will begin at about 6:15 PM.

June is Pride Month, and for this month’s happy hour, we are proud to partner with Lesbian Herstory Archives. The Lesbian Herstory Archives has been gathering and preserving records of Lesbian lives and activities since the 1970s. Founded in response to Lesbian history “disappearing as quickly as it was being made,” the Archives contain the world's largest collection of materials by and about lesbians.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Deb Edel is one of the founders of the Lesbian Herstory Archives. She has been working with the Archives steadily since its inception in 1974. Trained as a social worker and psychologist, Deborah spent her working life focused on the intersectionality of education and mental health as an educational therapist, a counselor and a school administrator. Retired in 2012, Deborah and her partner Teddy love to travel. Even when on the road, she finds time to connect with the needs of the Archives and her commitment to the Board of Trustees of the Mary McDowell Friends School, where she worked for many years prior to retirement.

Olivia Newsome (she/her) is an archivist, lesbrarian, and volunteer at the Lesbian Herstory Archives. She focuses on how to apply Disability Justice and other critical frameworks to her efforts as an information professional. You can check out one of Olivia's archival projects titled 'On Selfhood: Young Lesbians Within the Margins' here on this website.

Fabliha Yeaqub is a multi-disciplinary artist, writer, and community organizer based in New York City. She is the cultural organizer for Arts & Democracy where her main focus is cultivating a safe environment for immigrant youth to creatively express themselves through art and culture. Fabliha is also the founder of the Marigold Seeds Collective, a grassroots organization for LGBTQ+ South Asians and Indo-Caribbeans. She has been featured in multiple publications such as Teen Vogue, NBC News, and more. Fabliha utilizes the many facets of her identity in her writing and believes storytelling is a powerful tool to heal souls. You can check her website, Instagram, or her Substack!
