Creative Aging, Online: Writing Workshop: Putting Your Life on the Page - Writing and Publishing Personal Essays
Explore your artistic potential with Creative Aging, a series of art workshops for adults 50 and older.
This event is online only.
Join Columbus Library for Putting Your Life on the Page - Writing and Publishing Personal Essays, an online program! Teaching artist Brian Gresko will guide participants through the art of writing over six sessions.
Writing about our life experiences can be rewarding and even healing, but for many people, it's also a scary prospect. Where to begin? How should the story be shaped so that a reader will find it engaging as well as enlightening? And when you're done, how do you go about getting a piece published in an online magazine or literary journal?
Over the course of six weeks, we will read personal narratives written by adept authors and discuss some of the techniques they use. Through writing prompts, participants will put those techniques into practice. We will spend time in every class discussing participants' work with the goal that participants will have a complete short essay by the end of the course. This is intended for writers new to writing or nonfiction, or authors who haven't written in a while and are looking to sharpen their skills. The classes will be designed so that participants who sign up for all of the classes will find their skills building from week to week.
Suggested materials: paper, pen, pencil
