刘慈欣是中国最多产、最受欢迎的科幻作家。他已经斩获了八次银河奖(中国雨果奖),并成为华语科幻星云奖获得者。在成为作家之前,他曾是一名电厂工程师。他通过 Tor Books 出版的英文小说有三体三部曲:《三体》(The Three-Body Problem)、《三体 Ⅱ:黑暗森林》(The Dark Forest)、《三体 Ⅲ:死神永生》(Death's End);《球状闪电》(Ball Lightning);以及之前的短篇小说集《擎天》(To Hold Up the Sky)。

石静远是耶鲁大学现代中国文化史学家和文学学者。她的新书《汉字王国:让中国走向现代的语言革命》(Kingdom of Characters: The Language Revolution That Made China Modern) 揭示了中国和中国的语言文字如何走进以西方字母为主导的信息时代的戏剧性故事。

China’s most beloved science fiction writer discusses his life and work. This event is presented in Mandarin with English subtitles.

Cixin Liu counts among his fans George R. R. Martin, Kim Stanely Robinson, and even Barack Obama. His books have sold millions of copies around the globe, and he is the most prolific and popular science fiction writer in the People’s Republic of China. Liu has earned eight Galaxy Awards (the Chinese Hugo), as well as a Chinese Nebula Award and, in the U.S., a Hugo Award. His Three-Body Trilogy is being adapted into an original series for Netflix.

Liu discusses his life and work with author Jing Tsu, a literary scholar and cultural historian of modern China at Yale University.

   ABOUT THE SPEAKERS   


Cixin Liu is the most prolific and popular science fiction writer in the People’s Republic of China. Liu is an eight-time winner of the Galaxy Award (the Chinese Hugo) and a winner of the Chinese Nebula Award. Prior to becoming a writer, he worked as an engineer in a power plant. His novels published in English by Tor Books include The Three-Body Trilogy, which includes The Three-Body Problem, The Dark Forest, and Death's End; Ball Lightning; and a previous short story collection To Hold Up the Sky.

Jing Tsu is a cultural historian and literary scholar of modern China at Yale University. Her new book, Kingdom of Characters: The Language Revolution That Made China Modern (Riverhead 2022), uncovers the dramatic story of how China and its language entered the information age dominated by the western alphabet.
