Welcome to The Silent Clowns Film Series, NYC's longest-running regularly-scheduled showcase for classic silent film comedy (since 1997)!  We present monthly, year-round showings of the silent movies of Chaplin, Keaton, Laurel & Hardy, Lloyd, and many others, all with live musical accompaniment by renowned silent film accompanist Ben Model. Every program features a spoken introduction and Q&A by film historians Ben Model and Steve Massa, and our shows are curated by film historian Bruce Lawton.  Come early and read our excellent film notes and enjoy silent-era coming attraction slides.  Our programs, presented on a regular basis on weekend afternoons, are geared to classic film fans as well as to families.

Clara Bow is remembered as "The It Girl," and this is the film that started it all. Magnetic and vivacious, Bow burned brightly on the screen for only ten years. Besides "IT" ('27) she starred mostly in comedies like Mantrap ('26) and Red Hair ('28), as well as the blockbuster aviation drama Wings ('27). Unhappy in sound films, she retired at 28 in 1933.
Slapstick Diva par excellence Alice Howell kicks off the show in her two-reeler CINDERELLA CINDERS ('20).
