The Library After Hours: September 15: Mapping NYC

Share

September 15, 2017

Program Locations:

Join us at the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building on select Fridays for the city's most cerebral happy hour. The Library After Hours features music, food and drinks, performances, and behind-the-scenes access to the Library’s collections.

Inspired by our exhibition of New York pictorial maps and the rich history of NYC cartography housed in the Library’s archives, Mapping NYC explores the city map by map, neighborhood by neighborhood, block by block, and resident by resident.

The evening will include:

  • A one-night-only specially curated collections display of historic maps of New York City
  • An exhibit of pictorial maps of the city, which highlight the creative and playful sides of cartography
  • Arts & Crafts table: Map your Manhattan memories as part of the Mapping Manhattan project
  • Curated selection of short 16mm films, pulled from the archives of the Library for the Performing Arts
  • Demonstrations of—and the chance to contribute to—the Library’s digital New York mapping tools: the Space/Time Directory, Map Warper, and Building Inspector
  • Oral History Project listening stations which chart personal stories of New York neighborhoods
  • Quiet room with games, coloring, and puzzles
  • DJ
  • Food & drinks available for purchase
