LIVE from NYPL: Atul Gawande with Elizabeth Alexander: A Good Life —To The Very End

Atul Gawande’s Being Mortal, which spent nearly 2 years on the New York Times’ bestseller list, asserts that while modern medicine has transformed the experience of birth, injury, and infectious disease, it has not done the same for aging and death. But Gawande, a practicing surgeon, believes that medicine has the capacity provide a fulfilling life all the way to its very end. Upon the paperback publication of Being Mortal, he will speak with Obama Inaugural poet Elizabeth Alexander, whose most recent Pulitzer Prize finalist memoir, The Light of the World, recounts her own existential crossroads following the sudden death of her husband.
