Boot Camp Dance Studio visit

Event Details

The Boot Camp is project of the NYC Department of Education and Lincoln Center Education, established to give 2 intensive weeks of audition/portfolio training to assist rising 8th graders preparing to apply for entrance into the specialized high schools.  Each August, The New York Public Library for the Performign Arts collaborates with the project by giving orientations, special experiences and library cards to the participants.  Since the students are between 7th and 8th grades, I am listing them as Young Adults, but some of them may have been under 13..

The teacher Patricia Dye and Teaching Artists Gia Mongell requested specific videos from the Jerome Robbins Dance Division.   The 35 Dance students viewed excerpts from a Works & Process program (*MGZIDVD 5-7185) that featured Misty Copeland in and dicussing her role in The Fireird.   They also viewedAlvin Ailey and Minnie Marshall in the "Wade in the Water" sequence from Revelations, as staged for the 1962 television show Lamp Unto My Feet, reformatted for DVD  (*MGZIDVD 5-4470 ).   They were also introduced to the Circulating Dance books and DVDs.

My thanks to Johnny Gore and Daisy Pommer, who facilitated the use of the Screening Room.
