Have you ever wondered about the history of your home? Who used to live there or what their lives were like? This class will show you how to research the history of your building and the people who owned and lived in it. The Milstein Division is home to one of the largest free United States history, local history and genealogy collections in the country. Looking at censuses, city directories, land conveyances, maps, photographs, newspapers, and local histories available at the New York Public Library, and at other New York City institutions, you will learn how to construct a narrative history of your home or building.

In advance of this class, you may like to read the Milstein Division blog post, Who Lived in a House Like This? A Brief Guide to Researching Your NYC Home.
