Cave Canem Foundation, North America’s premier home for black poetry, and the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture present an evening of innovative poetry and music celebrating the work and legacy of Sekou Sundiata.

Oralizing: The Speed of Spoken Thought pays tribute to the poet, playwright and educator whose iconic one-man show, blessing the boats, and other productions inspired a generation. Re-imagining Sundiata’s “blues of transcendence,” the program will feature violinist Juliette Jones, guitarist Marvin Sewell, rhythmist Val-Inc., poet and playwright Dael Orlandermith, poet Tyehimba Jess, and composer and curator Karma Mayet Johnson.

The program is part of Blink Your Eyes: Sekou Sundiata Revisited, a six-month, citywide retrospective featuring theater, poetry, music and community activities, produced by MAPP International Productions and developed through a major partnership of twelve New York City arts and educational institutions.

Tickets: $10 General Admission; $8 Schomburg Society Members. To purchase tickets, call (212) 491-2206 or visit showclix.com.
