September 9th: The Maltese Falcon (1941; 100mins.) Dir: John Huston. Sam Spade is a partner in a private-eye firm who finds himself hounded by police when his partner is killed while tailing a man. The woman who asked his partner to follow the man turns out to be someone who is not what she says she is...Starring Humphrey Bogart, Mary Astor. 

September 16th: The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946; 113mins.) Dir: Tay Garnett. Frank Chambers is a drifter who lands at a roadside gas station owned by jolly old Nick Smith and his young wife Cora. In a matter of minutes, Frank and Cora fall in love, and plot to murder Nick. Wedding bells ring, and the body count rises. Starring Lana Turner and John Garfield. 


September 23rd: Point Blank (1967; 92mins.) Dir: John Boorman. A professional criminal helps pull off an underworld heist, then is gunned down and left for dead. He resurfaces to track down his share of the loot. Starring Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson. 

September 30th: An American Dream (1966; 103mins.) Dir: Robert Gist. A TV talk-show host who may have killed his wife finds himself being pursued by both the police and a gang of hoods. Starring Janet Leigh, Stuart Whitman. 

October 7th: Xanadu (1980; 93mins.) Dir: Robert Greenwald. The story of a girl who makes dreams come true. Greek muses and roller disco! Starring Olivia Newton-John and Gene Kelly. 

October 21st: The Witches (1990; 91mins.) Dir: Nicolas RoegA young boy, recently orphaned, is taken to England by his grandmother. At a hotel in which they are staying, a group of witches have gathered to prepare a plot to rid the world of all children. Starring Anjelica Huston. 

October 28th: The Shining (1980; 146mins.) Dir: Stanley Kubrick. A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and of the future. Starring Jack Nicholson, Shelley Duvall. 

November 4th: Destry Rides Again (1934; 94mins.) Dir: George Marshall. Destry, a mild-mannered deputy who doesn't like guns,  is called to restore order to the hopelessly corrupt frontier town of Bottleneck. He's soon roped into action after meeting the seductive Frenchy, an alluring saloon girl belting out unforgettable show-stoppers! Starring James Stewart and Marlene Dietrich. 

November 18th: The Scarlet Empress (1934; 104mins.) Dir: Josef von Sternberg. Young Princess Sophia of Germany is taken to Russia to marry the half-wit Grand Duke Peter. Sophia doesn't like her husband, but she likes Russia, and is very fond of Russian soldiers. She dutifully produces a son -- of questionable fatherhood, but no one seems to mind that! Starring Marlene Dietrich. 


November 25th: Jet Pilot (1957; 112mins.) Dir: Josef von Sternberg. Air Force Colonel Shannon is assigned to escort defecting Soviet pilot Anna. He falls in love with her, but she is scheming to lure him back to the USSR. Turns out Shannon has a scheme of his own...Starring John Wayne, Janet Leigh.
