Preparing Your Child To Read: Library Resources for Parents of Babies and Toddlers

Reading begins at home--parents don't have to wait for their children to go to school to start teaching them to read, and the library has a wide variety of resources to help them do it.

This is a series of three workshops intended for parents of babies and toddlers--as well as expectant parents, ESL parents, busy working parents, and caretakers/nannies--who want to know what they can do to help their children become great readers. The workshops are led by Dr. Ritashona Simpson, a New York City public school teacher and mother of a three-year-old.

• June 22: Video and Audio. The first session will focus on DVDs and CDs.
• July 13: Electronic Books. The second session will focus on electronic books freely available from the library's website. 
• August 10: Books. The third session will focus on board books and picture books appropriate for early readers, and will include a read aloud.

After each session, parents will have the opportunity to borrow the materials that were presented.
