A NYPL Labs Talk with Santiago Ortiz - FREE

Among the networks that are more interesting and useful to visualize are the ones coming from humanities and cultural contexts, since these fields have a tradition of working with relational logics and information, rather than quantitative. The metaphor of culture and humanities as networks precedes by far the practice of visualizing them. I'll be presenting interactive projects that visualize conversations and humanities contents, and that explore new ways to convey the dynamic and living aspects of the networks.

Speaker

Santiago Ortiz is an information visualization researcher and inventor. He uses his background in mathematics and complexity sciences to push the boundaries of information visualization and data based story telling. He was born in Colombia and currently lives in Argentina. In 2005 he co-founded Bestiario (Barcelona), the first company in Europe devoted to information visualization. Now he works as a freelancer and he specializes in visualizing conversations and knowledge.
