Instructor: Hermine Meinhard

Through images – a pear on a windowsill, a rain-slicked street—we not only see but enter into the world of a poem. Images have the capacity to hold feeling. In this workshop participants will experiment with ways to capture images from memories, dreams and the world around them. By meeting’s end they will have written a poem.

Hermine Meinhard’s book Bright Turquoise Umbrella, published by Tupelo Press, was a finalist for the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award. Her poems have appeared in American Letters & Commentary, Barrow Street, Drunken Boat, Verse Daily and many other publications. Meinhard is a faculty member of NYU’s McGhee Division, the New York Writers Workshop and the Jewish Community Center of Manhattan. She also offers one-on-one writing classes and coaching. She has an MFA in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College.
