Instant Shakespeare Reading: The Taming of the Shrew & The Comedy of Errors

April 27, 2013

Program Locations:

Join us for a reading by the Instant Shakespeare Company. This month is a double feature of The Taming of the Shrew and The Comedy of Errors.

: The Taming of the Shrew depicts the courtship of Petruchio, a gentleman of Verona, and Katherina, the headstrong, obdurate shrew. Initially, Katherina is an unwilling participant in the relationship, but Petruchio tempers her with various psychological torments—the "taming"—until she becomes a compliant and obedient bride. The subplot features a competition between the suitors of Katherina's more desirable sister, Bianca.

: The Comedy of Errors tells the story of two sets of identical twins that were accidentally separated at birth. Antipholus of Syracuse and his servant, Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus, which turns out to be the home of their twin brothers, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus. When the Syracusans encounter the friends and families of their twins, a series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, a near-seduction, the arrest of Antipholus of Ephesus, and false accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession.

The Instant Shakespeare Company is dedicated to the proposition that Shakespeare is for everyone. The company organizes annual readings of all of Shakespeare's plays, using the original Folio & Quarto texts.
