Event Details

Love a good story? Sit back and relax as we read you a story or two.

January 2013 — Edith Wharton's New York Stories

The Rembrandt
Only dire need could make Mrs. Fontage part with the (unsigned) painting by Rembrandt that she and her late husband acquired fifty years ago on their honeymoon in Europe. Unfortunately she sees it through the eyes of love and memory, not with the  artistic knowledge of a museum curator.

The Verdict
Jack Gisburn suddenly gave up his successful artistic career and married a rich widow. When asked why, he  recounts the criticism he received from a painter he greatly admired. The strange part is that the painter was dead at the time.

Other January Story Time PM Dates - January 15

Mrs. Manstey’s View
An elderly widow in failing health, Mrs. Manstey spends her days enjoying the view from the back window of her third-floor room, consisting of her neighbors’ back yards. When she learns a new building project will destroy her view, she is devastated.

Roman Fever
Two middle-aged ladies on holiday in Rome spend the afternoon reminiscing about their first visit to Rome  twenty-five years ago. Their conversation unexpectedly reveals long-held secrets from that visit.
