The Magic of Images: Writing a Poem  with Hermine Meinhard

Through images – a pear on a windowsill, a rain-slicked street—we not only see but enter into the world of a poem. Images have the capacity to hold feeling. In this workshop participants will experiment with ways to capture images from memories, dreams and the world around them. By meeting’s end you will have written a poem.

Hermine Meinhard’s book Bright Turquoise Umbrella, published by Tupelo Press, was a finalist for the Poetry Society of America’s Norma Farber First Book Award. Her poems have appeared widely in print and online publications such as American Letters & Commentary, Drunken Boat and Verse Daily and she has done readings of her work at venues throughout the city. Hermine is a faculty member of NYU’s McGhee Division and the New York Writers Workshop at the Jewish Community Center Manhattan. She has an MFA in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College.

New York Writers Workshop is an alliance of experienced, professional writers of poetry, fiction, non-fiction, plays and screenplays who live and teach in New York City.
