African Musical Instrument Workshop
Art Beyond Sight Board Member Dr. Richard Donald Smith will share the sounds of his African instrument collection. As a youngster, Dr. Smith was visually impaired, but not totally blind, and attended schools for the blind and visually impaired. Later mainstreamed into regular schools, he received his Ph.D. from Temple University, where his dissertaion focused on the development of musicians and music education in Africa. Musician and educator, scholar and humanitarian, Dr. Smith has traveled extensively to many African countries to do research, teach, give classical and African music concerts, and engage in various scholarly activities.
