Please join us to kick off "The Culture of Joy & Resilience: Traveling Exhibit 2011". COAHSI Folklife is honored to highlight Staten Island's greatest resource - its rich diversity and heritage - through a new project which will tour New York Public Libraries across the borough. "The Culture of Joy & Resilience: Reframing Cultural Conversations on Staten Island" brings a series of four exhibit panels, each profiling a community-based folk art expression, to rotate among several neighborhood library branches. Public performances and demonstrations of these vibrant traditions will enhance the exhibit throughout the year. Supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, this project promotes the cultural contributions of underrepresented communities, and stimulates traditional arts on Staten Island.
