About LaQuan Smith

LaQuan Smith (LQS) has a passion for fashion that in seven years has only gotten stronger. After a battle with a cancer, he was able to regroup and refocus on his passion. In 2007, after graduating from high school, he began working as an intern at prominent NY-based magazine, Blackbook. Yet, realizing his fashion thirst was not quenched he soon began exploring his design talents.

Experience and ambition have opened doors for LaQuan allowing him to work with some of the industry’s top models and photographers. He has designed custom pieces for an array of celebrities, pop culture icons and artists including: Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Beyonce’, Dakota Fanning, Alicia Keys, Julissa Bermudez, Aubrey O’day, Amerie, Toni Braxton, Ciara, Cassie, Justin of Semi Precious Weapons, top models Tyra Banks, Sessilee Lopez, Amber Rose, Sigail Currie, Tara Gill, and Jaslene Gonzalez (ANTM), fashion personality Andre J., and the list goes on.

LaQuan Smith’s New York Fashion Week debut was a huge success when it was held on February 15, 2010 at the Society of Illustrators. The audience for the LaQuan Smith “Water Goddess” Fashion Show was 100 exclusive attendees including top fashion press, buyers, and celebrities. Notable attendees included Vogue Editor-at-Large, Andre Leon Talley, Vogue Style Director, Alexandra Kotur, Janice Combs, Misa Hylton, Semi-Precious Weapons, and Londell McMillan. LaQuan has received a tremendous amount of press for his work including the New York Times, NY Daily News, Daily Candy, Wall Street Journal, Vogue, Seventeen, Marie Claire, Tyra.com, and many more.

LaQuan’s success has allowed him to showcase his collection both domestically and internationally with fashion shows in Atlanta, Philadelphia, Johannesburg and Tortola (British Virgin Islands). While in Atlanta supporting Foundation F.O.C.U.S, LaQuan received the F.O.C.U.S for Life Service Award for surviving cancer and not letting the trauma of such an experience hold him back from his passion. Throughout his travels, LaQuan was able to display an expanded version of his A/W 2010 Collection, which included his diffusion line entitled “LQS”, an affordable line that is currently inspired by athletic apparel.

The Spring/Summer 2010 Collection expands on the LaQuan Smith woman, who is the personification of modernity, sensuality, and liberation in femininity. The bold prints, unique silhouettes and inspiration will surely set LaQuan’s work this season apart from the rest. LaQuan states “Women have always inspired me to create. When it comes to women I understand their essence and my designs allow her to make history.
