Complete Catalogue of Books Published by the Hogarth Press from 1917–1927
London: The Hogarth Press, 1928
In the first eleven years of the Press, Virginia and Leonard Woolf published, as recorded in this catalogue, nearly two hundred books and pamphlets covering diverse topics. They included art (photographs by Julia Margaret Cameron, who had photographed Virginia’s mother), biography and memoir (Early Socialist Days), education (The League of Nations and The World’s Workers), literature (Woolf’s books; books by T.S. Eliot, E.M. Forster, and Katherine Mansfield; plus an entire list devoted to Tolstoy), and politics (Coal: A Challenge to the National Conscience). They also established different series for short stories, essays, and psychoanalysis. The latter included the first English translation of Sigmund Freud’s The Ego and the Id, in 1927.
As she did for many other Hogarth titles, Vanessa Bell designed the cover for the Complete Catalogue.
