Peter Pan costume design
James M. Barrie originally created the character of Peter Pan for his 1902 novel, The Little White Bird; the story of Wendy, Captain Hook, and the crocodile did not emerge until Barrie’s 1904 play, Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn’t Grow Up. The tale quickly became a favorite on the British and American stage, both in productions of Barrie’s original play and in pantomime adaptations. Marguerite Moreton played Wendy on British tours of the play from 1920–1925 and also designed several of the costumes, including this one for Peter Pan. The ink sketches at the bottom of the page indicate how the flying harness would have been integrated into the costume.
