Don Chepito Mariguano
Don Chepito Mariguano (Mr. Chepito the Pothead)—here posing as Hamlet, contemplating a skull—was a comically unscrupulous recurring character in the broadsides and pamphlets published by Vanegas Arroyo and illustrated by Posada. Considered to be Mexico’s first cartoon character, Don Chepito was typically the butt of jokes for being a bourgeois wimp.
