Join us for a gaming hour with Mario Kart on Nintendo Switch, board games, card games, chess, checkers, and puzzles! Snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring your own! This event will take place in-person at the New Amsterdam library and is restricted to tweens and teens in grades 6-12. Registration is not required.

Join us for a casual, drop-in hour of making buttons and magnets with our button machine! 1.25" and 1.5" buttons will be available. We will have some pre-made designs, but you can also design your own buttons with colored pencils, markers or collage materials (fashion and nature magazines, old encyclopedias/reference books, old illustrated picture books, etc). Stop by the front desk at the New Amsterdam library to pick up a copy. Meet at the branch at 11:00AM In case of extreme weather we will meet in the community room.

Join us for a knitting and crochet circle for teens and tweens! This program is for any skill level - even absolute beginners! If you're a beginner, we will teach you some basic stitches to get you started; if you already knit or crochet, bring a current project to work on! <숨겨진 한국 근대미술의 거장 이쾌대를 다시 만나다> 본 강연은 *진진영 미술사학자이자 전시 기획지의 신간 <Art, War, and Exile in Modern Korea: Rethinking the Life and Work of Lee Qoede> (이쾌대의 삶과 작품으로 재 조명한 한국의 근대 예술과 전쟁, 그리고 망명) 출간 계기로 만들어 졌으며, 현대 한국 미술사에서 빼놓을 수 없는 화가 이쾌대(1913–1965)의 독창적인 예술 세계와 파란만장한 삶을 국제적 맥락에 놓고 새롭게 조명합니다. 이쾌대는 일제강점기 한국에서 태어나 일본에서 서양미술을 공부한 이쾌대는 1940년대 이중섭, 김환기 등과 함께 활발히 활동했던 화가였습니다. 그러나 한국전쟁이라는 역사의 소용돌이 속에서 전쟁 포로로 잡혀 거제 포로수용소에 수감되었고, 한국전쟁 휴전협정 당시 북한을 선택하며 부인과 네 명의 자녀와 생이별을 하고 52세에 짧은 생을 마감했습니다. 월북자라는 꼬리표로…
