Lunar New Year is a major festival celebrated in many Asian countries and diaspora communities. Lasting 15 days, it's marked with family visits, community festivities, and rituals to attract good luck and prosperity for the year ahead. For observers of the Chinese zodiac, it's also a time to welcome a different zodiac animal to represent the year. Each animal in the Chinese zodiac (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig) is associated with certain characteristics and it's believed that people born in that zodiac year share these qualities.

2024 is the Year of the Dragon—the only mythical animal in the Chinese zodiac. Personality traits associated with people born in a dragon year include: intelligence, confidence, charisma, and enthusiasm. Below are some of our favorite authors born in dragon years (1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988) along with one of their works.
