Please join us for the fifth annual East Village Arts festival with in-person programs happening Wednesday, December 1 through Saturday, December 4. 

Wednesday, December 1 | 3–5 PMLive Jazz Performance: Rocco John Quartet
Join us in our main reading room as the Rocco John Quartet plays adventurous jazz standards. Rocco John Iacovone—alto sax, Jack DeSalvo—guitar, Phil Sirois—acoustic bass, Mark Flynn—drum.

Thursday, December 2 |2–7 PMEast Village Arts Festival Bonanza!  
We are happy to have local writers and artists showing their work in our libraryCome and meet the artists! Support the amazing arts scene in our East Village neighborhood. Featuring work by: B Scene Zine, Carpo, Delphine Le Goff, Eve Packer, Frank New, Greg Masters, Kat Georges and Peter Carlaftes, Ron Kolm, Ruth and Valery Oisteanu, and Sarah Ann Rutherford.

Friday, December 3 |11 AM–12 PM Walking Tour: Artists, Writers, Musicians of Tompkins Square.
Please join us for a fun in-person walking tour with library manager Corinne Neary and street photographer Michael Paul. To attend this free tour, please register above with your email address.  Tompkins Square Park has long been a center of the arts. Famed lyricist Yip Harburg spent hours of his childhood in the Tompkins Square Library reading room, years before he wrote the lyrics to the twentieth century's most famous song, Over the Rainbow. Poet Frank O'Hara, the "poet among the painters" lived on 9th Street and wrote poems while looking across the park at St. Brigid's Church.  We will discuss these artists, and many more!

Enjoy the art of freestyle painting!  Express yourself and create on an overized canvas. Recommended for ages 3–12.

Clayton Patterson

Saturday, December 4 |3:30–5 PM Clayton: Godfather of Lower East Side Documentary: A Graphic Novel.  
For the first time ever, legendary photographer and videographer Clayton Patterson—who Anthony Bourdain described as the "archivist of all things Lower East Side"—is the subject of a biographical graphic novel anthology. Like no other, Clayton has documented the often-overlooked people and cultural contributions of New York’s Lower East Side—sometimes finding himself in perilous situations as a result. Clayton Patterson will discuss the graphic novel with author Julian Voloj at Tompkins Square Library. Saturday, December 4 | 1–3 PM Children's Program: Collage And You! 
Use your imagination to make your own collage art! Recommended for ages 3–12.

Come to our East Village Arts Festival, starting on December 1 and grab a take home kit! Our winter-themed Candle Art Kits come with a ceramic candle holder, battery-operated candle, paint, paintbrushes, and fun goodies! For ages 13–18 years. While supplies last.
