KidsLIVE!: Spring 2021 Recap

Thanks for joining us for KidsLIVE! author talks in Spring 2021. Here is a list of all our KidsLIVE! programs of the season and a number of corresponding KidsLIVE! blog posts where you can find more resources like links to other books by the authors, read-alikes, activities to do at home and more.

Angela Johnson

Angela Johnson is a multi-award winning author, including three Coretta Scott King Awards and an Ezra Jack Keats award for her books. In this program, we learned about Angela Johnson's newest book, A Girl Like Me, which is featured on NYPL’s Best Books for Kids 2020 List. Angela shared about her life as an author, and what “accidental writing” means, followed by a Q&A with Angela and NYPL librarians.

Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow

Jamilah Thompkins-Bigelow is the author of the picture book, Your Name is a Song! Jamilah presented her book and invited NYPL librarians for a Q&A to discuss her inspirations for the book and what it’s like to be an author.

Kat Leyh

Kat Leyh is the author and illustrator of Snapdragon, a graphic novel featured on our Best Books for Kids 2020 List. Kat presented on writing and drawing, showed us her art process, and answered questions from NYPL librarians.

Linda Sue Park

Linda Sue Park is the author of Prairie Lotus, a middle-grade novel featured on NYPL’s Best Books for Kids 2020 List. Linda Sue presented about her book and upcoming projects, and was joined by NYPL librarians for a Q&A where she discussed her inspirations and what it’s like to be an author.

Thao Lam

Thao Lam is the author and illustrator of many children’s books including The Paper Boat: A Refugee Story which is featured on our Best Books for Kids 2020 List. Thao talked about the story behind her book which was followed by a Q&A with NYPL librarians. Carole Lindstrom

Carole Lindstrom is the author of the book We Are Water Protectors featured on our Best Books for Kids 2020 List! Carole shared with us inspirations for writing the book and the importance of protecting our planet. This was followed by a Q&A with Carole and NYPL librarians.

James Bird

James Bird wrote his very first book The Brave  which is featured on NYPL’s Best Books for Kids 2020 List. James presented about his book and life, talked about beginning a story with the finger tales trick, then joined NYPL librarians for a Q&A where he discussed his inspirations and what it’s like to be an author.

Jude Isabella

Science journalist Jude Isabella presented her book Bringing Back the Wolves: How a Predator Restored an Ecosystem which is featured on NYPL’s Best Books for Kids 2020 List. The program featured a wolf immersion activity to get you in a wild frame of mind! Jude talked about what draws her to write about ecology, and she explained the wonders of nature’s interconnectedness. Jude’s presentation was then followed by a Q&A with NYPL librarians.
